Founded in 1850, Bradfield College is a co-educational independent senior boarding and day school based in the beautiful setting of Bradfield, near Reading. Bradfield caters for 724 pupils of which 613 are boarders.
The Background
The school were introduced to Minerva via their auditors who were aware of their desire to ensure they were getting ‘best value’ from their numerous contracts. Working with Derek Fargher, the Financial Controller, Minerva was initially asked to undertake a review of their pupil transport provisions and in particular their coach hire. With coaches required for sports fixtures, theatre trips and regular school runs there was a significant spend. In addition there was an issue with service from the current supplier due to the small fleet size, increasing prices with no notice and a lack of a formal contract.
The Results
Savings of a minimum of 19.74%, equating to a sum in excess of £22, 500 per annum, were identified by effecting a change of supplier. The school no longer has to accommodate the needs of the coach company because the size of the fleet of coaches has increased from 14 to 51. There is a formal contract in place and fixed cost pricing for a minimum of 12 months.
